To Rescue an Ordinary Fisherwoman

One day in mid-February 1975, a girl worker of a fishermen’s cooperative on the west coast who went out to the sea to collect shellfish was drifting to the deep sea on an ice floe.

Upon hearing about this, the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il immediately took measures to rescue her by mobilizing helicopters from the People’s Army.

Helicopters and naval warships swept the dark sea in search of her, but it was as difficult as trying to find a needle in a pine grove to find her on the vast sea.

Comrade Kim Jong Il sat all night leading the rescue operation. When officials were not confident about the operation, he said to them: If we lose confidence, what would become of the girl on the sea? She might be looking up at the sky over her motherland believing in our Party to the end of her life.

When he was told that she was not found till the morning, he stressed the need to rescue her at any cost and took a series of measures to this end.

Under his leadership the girl was finally rescued twenty hours after the rescue operation started.
