Tobacco Prohibition Law Adopted
The 11th Plenary Meeting of the 14th Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea adopted the Tobacco Prohibition Law of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The law with 31 provisions stipulates the regulations all institutions, organizations and citizens must abide by in protecting the lives and health of the people and creating more cultured and hygienic living environment by tightening legal and social control on the production and sale of cigarettes and on smoking as required by the State’s policy of tobacco prohibition.
It also specifies non-smoking places and units like places for political and ideological education, public places such as theatres and cinemas, institutions for the nursing and upbringing of children, educational institutions, medical and health service facilities, commercial, catering and welfare service facilities and means of public transportation. It also indicates penalties for violating smoking order and others.
