Woman Doctor in Field of Angiography

Kim Ok Gyong, PhD and associate professor and head of the angiographic treatment department of Kim Man Yu Hospital, is recognized as a veteran medical worker in the field of angiographic treatment in the DPRK. 

Since she graduated from university over 40 years ago and took up cardiac surgery, she has developed many advanced treatment methods and techniques. Even after she became a doctor of the angiographic treatment department, she continued research into medical sciences, thus applying an intervention therapy to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases for the first time in the country.

On this basis, she has developed and established over 30 advanced treatment methods such as coronary stent enthesis for angina pectoris, stem cell transplantation, interventional balloon dilatation for mitral stenosis, and a remedy for embolization caused by bronchial arteriorrhagia in vascular malformation, thus expanding the scope of application of intervention therapy.

In the course of this, she has invented and introduced 10-odd kinds of advanced medical appliances and supplies for intervention. In particular, she developed a device for the intervention of mitral stenosis, a monopoly of some countries, in conformity with the constitutional characteristics of the Korean people, thus receiving the prize for sci-tech innovation.

She is also president of the intervention panel of the Medical Association of Korea. She devotes her wisdom and passion to further developing and widely introducing intervention techniques.
