A Surgeon Wins Technical Innovation Prize

In March 2026 a certificate of technical innovation prize was conferred on medical workers who contributed to establishing an original multifetal health care method.

Among them is Pak Song Suk of baby department No. 3 of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital.

She has worked at the hospital for 46 years.

In those days she worked as a doctor, department chief and then deputy director of the hospital, playing an important part in discharging hundreds of sets of triplets in good health.

When quintuplets, the first of their kind in the country, were born in January last year, she took charge of the technical guidance of the treatment team.

When they were born, the quintuplets had two or three complications, including dyspnea and circulatory disturbance.

Thanks to the high medical skills and sincerity of her and other medical workers of the hospital, they began to show signs of stable health in a little over 10 days after birth and could be discharged from hospital in good health in March.

Her high medical skills enabled her to play an important part in the establishment of the multifetal health care method.

Pak is honoured with People’s Doctor, PhD, assistant professor and meritorious person of socialist patriotism.
