Expanding Application Scope of Fumigation Therapy

Jo Il Jun, chief of the circulatory internal department of the Pyongyang Municipal General Hospital No. 2, is well-known for his effective treatment by using fumigation therapy.

Fumigation therapy is one of the traditional Koryo therapies, and fumigation refers to the fume or steam generated when burning or boiling herbs.

Fumigation therapy based on the thermal action of medicinal vapour and pharmacological action by medicine absorption is characterized by quick and accurate therapeutic effect.

In the course of studying and experimenting with fumigation therapy and reading a large number of historical books, Jo Il Jun has solved many technical problems such as selection of medicines, medicine preparation, definition of inhalation dose and treatment period according to patients, thus completing a fumigation therapy suitable for treating circulatory diseases.

His fumigation therapy combined with the inhaling of gaseous medicines and drinking of decoction and medicinal massage in the form of a shower in a hot-water bath and automatic sauna, helps eliminate the root cause of the diseases and restore the functions of the body as a whole, thereby registering a high rate of recovery from various refractory diseases that are not effectively treated by Western medicine.

This therapy was applied to a 52-year-old man who was disabled due to renal hypertension, resulting in improvement in his kidney function and stabilization in blood pressure in 5 days. The therapy has also proved effective for a number of critically ill patients, including those with hyperbilirubinemia and autism.

He is now further intensifying the study of the therapy to expand the scope of its application.
