With New Surgical Approaches

A medical team of clinical department No. 2 of the Orthopaedic Hospital of the Korea General Red Cross Hospital has cured patients with lumbar diseases by applying minimally invasive surgery.
The method makes it possible to minimize the skin opening for surgery and remove the cause of the disease while looking at the focus through an endoscope. The method is characterized by a high efficiency of treatment, no sequelae, and a short period of treatment.
The medical team of the department made a deep study of literature and conducted clinical research for years. On the basis of this, it succeeded in treating lumbar disc prolapse and other lumbar diseases with spinal endoscopic surgery without minimizing the injury on neurological glands and tissues.
It has perfected the method by steadily applying it, thus raising the treatment efficiency and techniques to the advanced level.
In those days, it has manufactured various kinds of surgical materials and medical appliances of great significance by its own efforts, laying a material and technical foundation for developing new surgical methods.
The medical team of clinical department No. 2 received a certificate of scientific and technological achievements in 2023 for the successful introduction of the minimally invasive surgical method, and Prof. Won Sung Gwon, PhD and department chief, won the best inventor prize in 2024.
