Medical Service

With Sincere Devotion

One day in May a 14-year-old boy from Taedong County, South Phyongan Province, was admitted to the circulatory internal medicine department of the Okryu Children’s Hospital as an emergency case.

The patient’s condition was critical with hypertension, nausea, and vomiting and he was in a stupor.

His diagnosis was serious chronic renal failure.

Jang Kun Il, department chief, and other medical workers of the department immediately examined the general condition of the patient in detail and conducted a medical examination. On this basis, they held a consultative meeting to take measures for treatment.

Three days later, the patient regained consciousness. But the treatment was challenging due to his impaired vision and malnutrition caused by uremia. Medical workers of the department including Hong Hyon Suk, doctor in charge of the patient, and Kang Hyon A, chief nurse, took measures for correcting electrolytes and acidosis, while managing his nutrition in a scientific way.

Thanks to the warm care of the doctors, the patient regained his health in a matter of 20 and so days.

In addition, medical workers in the department resuscitated critically ill patients, including a serious case with cardiac malformation complicated with heart failure and pneumonia.
