Pak Yong Ae, chief of the gynaecology department of Pyongyang Municipal Koryo Medicine Hospital, is famous for extensively applying traditional Koryo therapies to the treatment of gynaecological diseases.

Having graduated from Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences more than 20 years ago, she paid attention to the Koryo therapies in the course of treating gynaecological diseases.

While delving into the principles of acupuncture, moxibustion and acu-injection to prove their effectiveness, she confirmed that these Koryo therapies are highly effective and suitable for the physical constitution of the Korean women.

She intensified research and thereby developed the effective Koryo therapies.

In the course of this, she perfected the method of acu-injection for patients complicated by pelvic peritonitis and perimetritis, and carbon daylight therapy for ovarian cystoma and uterine myomas. These methods enjoy popularity among patients as they make it possible to effectively remove the source of the diseases without surgery.

In addition, the method of treating mastitis by combining acupuncture and decoction of Lonicera japonica Thunb and the method of treating mazopathia by Koryo medicines are drawing the attention of experts as they give no physical pain to the patients and shorten the period of treatment.

By actively applying the Koryo therapies, Pak has cured many patients who had suffered from inflammatory diseases and treated women who had suffered from infertility for many years.

She has also made a number of research achievements conducive to raising the scientific level of gynaecologic treatment, including IT products helpful for diagnosing and treating gynaecological diseases.
