Paduk Education Encouraged to Suit Children’s Mind

Pyongyang September 15 Weekly Nursery attaches special importance to the education of paduk (go).

The nurses and teachers of the nursery believe that the paduk education plays an important role in developing the mathematical intelligence and creativity of nursery children.

The nursery focuses on improving the teachers’ qualifications while making them familiar with the basic principles of paduk so that they can apply them to children’s intellectual development. 

The teachers make the kids play different games to single out unusually clever and assiduous ones. Then they make use of approaches geared to giving the selected children basic understanding about paduk according to their ages and psychological features.  

“We have adopted several different teaching methods to accord with the characteristics of the children who like visual effect. The illustrated visual aid that depicts paduk board as crossroads and paduk stones as vehicles is one of them. The children are very good at solving and understanding challenges and moves,” said Kim Su Gyong, a teacher of the nursery.

The children on kindergarten course after learning paduk at the nursery are much cleverer and more sensitive than their peers, Kim added.

Now the nursery directs efforts to making the paduk education more effective and methodological.
