Devotion—Main Attribute of Healthcare

One day in May 2008, Chairman Kim Jong Il visited Hamhung College of Medical Sciences and instructed that the college should direct major efforts to teaching students more knowledge by improving the quality of the educational content. He stressed the need for medical universities to intensify education in basic subjects, principles and foreign language.

Looking round each of the laboratories and practice rooms built at the college, he said that in order to take responsible care of the health of the people who turned out in the building of a powerful socialist country, it was necessary to train competent health workers who were prepared ideologically, morally, technically and practically.

As human beings cannot exist without love, so healthcare cannot exist without devotion, he said, stressing that devotion is an attribute and lifeblood of socialist healthcare and that the healthcare sector should educate doctors to become true servants of the people and genuine medical workers who are ready to devote themselves to the treatment of patients with warm and deep human love.
