Principles of Socialist Medicine

One day in October 1966, the great leader Comrade Kim Il Sung came to the Pyongyang Grand Theatre to guide a national congress of nursery school and kindergarten teachers. Prior to the meeting, he met some officials.

After having a talk with them for a while, he mentioned that the public health sector was failing to conduct the work of preventing diseases in a responsible manner.

He stressed that the important thing in socialist medicine is prevention, in other words, to take measures in advance to prevent the working people from becoming ill, and that socialist medicine is, therefore, preventive medicine.

Then he clarified the tasks and ways for promoting preventive medicine, including the issue of giving the working people a good knowledge of hygiene and the issue of making wide use of mineral water and hot springs abundant in the country in preventing and treating diseases among the masses.

He earnestly asked the officials to take measures in advance for preventing all people from getting ill, saying that there was no reason why the people should become ill under this good system.
